Maitrayee Mukhopadhyay, Ph.D, is a social anthropologist specialized in social development with a focus on gender and development. She has expertise in social and institutional analysis, citizenship and rights in development and integration of equity concerns across sectors in policy development, programme and project planning, monitoring and evaluation. She has extensive experience and skills in applied and action-oriented research, development education and training and has several publications in her fields of expertise.
Dr Mukhopadhyay has worked in Asia, Africa and the Middle East with multilateral and bilateral agencies, national governments, and international and national non-governmental organizations on a broad range of development issues. Recently she has also undertaken regional consultations to develop a programme on gender justice and citizenship with research institutions and civil society organizations in Latin America.
At present, Dr Mukhopadhyay is the Area Leader for Social Development and Gender Equity for KIT Development Policy & Practice where she is responsible for programme development with a special focus on gender, citizenship and governance and rights-based approaches in development. Dr. Mukhopadhyay is involved in building partnerships, capacity and agendas to undertake action research; carrying out advisory work in social development; conducting international and regional training programmes on gender and development; and writing books and papers in her field of expertise.
