Stella van Beers, MSc, PhD, is Coordinator Epidemiology at the KIT Biomedical Research Department (BR). With a background in Medical Biology and specialized in Epidemiology, Surveillance, Malaria and Tuberculosis, she combines research expertise and practical experience of communicable disease control in the field.
She has extensive experience in the development and implementation of training courses in epidemiology, clinical research, project management and laboratory quality systems at all administrative levels of the health care system in Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe.
She provides consultancies to various international organizations in the field of epidemiology, disease control, and (tuberculosis) laboratory services with a focus on quality management systems. She is also a lecturer on Epidemiology in the International Course on Health and Development at KIT.
From 1999 – 2002 she completed a three-year consultancy in Indonesia, as a public health surveillance expert at the department of Communicable Disease Control in the Ministry of Health in Indonesia where she supported disease control programs at the district level, with a particular focus on malaria and tuberculosis and vaccine-related diseases.
Her long-term field experience further involves a five year period in a primary health care project in Zambia and another four years in Indonesia where she worked as a research coordinator and a lecturer.
