The public health aspects of humanitarian aid in crisis interventions and natural disasters are emphasized.
The course programme includes a week-long simulation exercise and short presentations by guest lecturers on relevant topics. These presentations relate to hypothetical events occurring in a crisis in the border area between Alphaland and Betaland. Participants prepare a Dutch battalion for deployment; deal with epidemic outbreaks; plan services for refugees in famine conditions; and coordinate with the government of a prototypical developing country and with NGOs present at the site.
Teaching methods include simulation, group work, role playing, lectures, videos and reading assignments.
Organization
