- Does KIT offer scholarships?
The arrangement of financial support to cover all study costs is the responsibility of the applicant. KIT does not offer financial support or fellowships.
Some candidates are sponsored by their own governments, universities or employers while others apply for fellowships offered through the United Nations and its specialised agencies such as UNICEF, WHO, WB, UNDP or through other international programmes, such as those of OECD or OAS. - Do I need insurance to participate in a course in the Netherlands?
The Netherlands has no national health service. According to Dutch law, all participants of international courses and any accompanying dependents are required to have health, accident and third party insurance.
Unless their current insurance policy covers their stay in the Netherlands, participants must insure themselves and their dependents in the Netherlands. Dutch insurance companies offer reasonable rates to foreign students. Please note that holders of a NFP fellowship are automatically insured but their dependents are not.
- How do I find accommodations?
KIT will secure accommodation for participants with a NFP fellowship and assist others in their search for housing. There is a shortage of student accommodation in Amsterdam and participants are advised to contact KIT for information.
- Do I need a visa to study in the Netherlands?
Citizens of EU or European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries, and citizens of Australia, Canada, Iceland, Japan, Liechtenstein, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland and the USA do not need a visa to enter the Netherlands.
Participants from other countries do need a visa to study in the Netherlands. Applicants should take into account that in some countries this procedure can take months.
Depending on the course you are taking, you will need either a short-stay visa (VKV) or, if you are staying longer than 3 months, an authorization for temporary stay (MVV). KIT can assist with the application procedure for the MVV.
- What is the Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP)?
The Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) are demand-oriented fellowships funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and administered by the Netherlands Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education (Nuffic).
The fellowships are designed to meet the need for further training and capacity building in developing countries. Candidates from a wide range of organizations are eligible: governmental, private and non-governmental. Examples include educational institutions, planning agencies, ministries, community-based organizations and private enterprises.
The Netherlands embassy or consulate can advise prospective applicants on relevant application procedures. Candidates interested in these fellowships are strongly advised to contact the embassy or consulate in their country before applying for a stipend. Application forms are available from the Nuffic website. See also: Netherlands Fellowship Programme
