John Belt is an agricultural economist with more than 15 years of experience in rural development work in Africa, Asia and Latin America. His expertise involves: market research and extension, contract farming and farmer-company linkages, market liberalization and decentralization policies, food security policies, micro-enterprise development and promotion, farming systems approaches, and participatory planning.
Mr. Belt has conducted numerous short-term missions in various developing countries, including Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Nicaragua, South Africa, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, India, the Philippines. He has also carried out long-term assignments for bilateral and multilateral agencies in East Africa (Tanzania, Mozambique), Asia (Yemen) and Latin America (Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru).
Mr. Belt is currently a senior advisor in sustainable economic development at KIT. He has considerable experience in advisory work, capacity development and institutional development, research and extension, policy development, and project execution and management. He thrives on multi-cultural contexts, has excellent writing and communication skills, likes to coach and motivate colleagues and prefers to work in a team.
