Chris Hunter has a MA in Gender and Development and 18 years of experience working with civil society organizations and governments to advance gender equality and human rights. She has particular expertise in issues of violence against women, having researched the effectiveness and potential of legal strategies, coordinated the development of theoretical and programmatic frameworks for preventing gendered violence, and designed and managed a wide range of programmes. Other areas of specialty include women’s political participation, pay and employment equity, and issues of equality and empowerment in contexts of conflict and disaster.
Ms Hunter has worked with NGOs, advocacy networks, and local and national governments in Canada, Indonesia, Nepal and Sri Lanka. She has designed, managed, implemented and evaluated capacity development initiatives, action research projects and grant programmes.
Currently, Ms Hunter is a gender advisor for the Social Development and Gender Equity team at KIT Development Policy & Practice. She is involved in the design and delivery of gender analysis training for groups ranging from water sector specialists and local government officials to gender advisors and gender focal points, and is contributing to a critical review of gender training. She is working with colleagues on a multi-disciplinary approach to development and rights in fragile states.
