HIV and AIDS

  • HIV politics, policy, governance and planning mechanisms

Participants identify HIV and AIDS-related international agreements, conventions and financial mechanisms, and analyse how these influence national planning and implementation and vice versa. Participants analyse political and institutional structures and their implications for planning and managing the response.
  • Health sector responses to HIV

Participants critically analyse existing services from the perspective of addressing the needs of vulnerable groups and communities, and examine the impact on the health system and formulate responses. They also examine the opportunities presented by HIV programmes to establish synergies and to strengthen the existing health system.
  • Dynamics of HIV and AIDS epidemics and analyzing effective responses

The course aims to help participants analyse the drivers of the epidemic and identify prevention, treatment, care and support strategies, including impact mitigation. By the end of the course, participants will be able to critically discuss the principles of HIV responses and the range of interventions available to respond to HIV.
