Legal action fails to help KIT
9 mei 2012Uncertain future for Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) AMSTERDAM May 9, 2012 – KIT’s lawsuit, contesting the end of its subsidy from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs per 1 January 2013, has been declared inadmissible by the court in Amsterdam. KIT has decided to lodge an appeal with the Council of State. It has also requested an expedited procedure. If the inadmissibility ruling is overruled, KIT will ask the Council of State to look at the merits of the case. -
Museum library will close from April 1
7 maart 2012Amsterdam, 6 March 2012 – The museum library of the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) will shut down on 1 April 2012 as a result of government cutbacks. Also known as the ‘Kenniscentrum’, the museum library is housed in the Tropenmuseum which is part of KIT. -
WHO teams up again with KIT to deal with health workforce crisis
17 mei 2011Amsterdam – The World Health Organization (WHO) has redesignated the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) in Amsterdam as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Research, Training and Development of Human Resources for Health. The redesignation is for another period of four years. -
Leprosy Foundation and Royal Tropical Institute to continue their collaboration
8 maart 2011The Leprosy Foundation and the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT), which have worked closely together for many years, signed a contract on March 2 to renew their cooperation. The agreement is initially for three years, with an option to renew. The Leprosy Foundation will receive ongoing advice and support from KIT’s leprosy specialists. -
Women's rights organizations hit by 'double whammy'
8 maart 2011Women’s rights organizations around the world are suffering from the double impact of changes to aid modalities and cuts to development funding. Recent research has shown that grass-roots women’s organizations are cutting back on programmes and staff. According to the Royal Tropical Institute, “in 2011, the year of the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day, work on women’s rights is suffering, despite donors’ repeated claims that they are committed to gender equality.”
