On Friday 8 July, a new one-day course will be organized at the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT). ‘Preparation of (voluntary) medical practice in developing countries’ is aimed at Dutch nurses, midwives and medical doctors planning to do clinical work in developing countries.
The Dutch Society of Tropical Medicine and International Health (NVTG) seeks to prevent a situation in which Western health care workers working in developing countries have only a limited impact (or even negative impact) on health care because they are insufficiently aware of the local context. The NVTG therefore established a Code of Practice on International Cooperation in Health Care (‘Gedragscode Internationale Samenwerking Gezondheidszorg').
This one-day course aims at enhancing the preparation of health professionals planning to work in developing countries. It addresses issues such as health systems, aid architecture, determinants of health, and intercultural communication.
