Virtual learning

What are Virtual Learning Communities (VLCs)?
VLCs are a form of internet-based training for groups of participants. Internet software offers a space for sharing links, documents and videos, and for organizing quizzes, discussion forums and self-tests. Participants work on assignments which they submit online, while fellow-participants and facilitators provide feedback through the internet.

VLCs can be successful with or without face-to-face interaction between VLC members. If participants are located far apart geographically, Skype sessions can be used to create more personal contact between the learners and the facilitators. Pro-active facilitation and the use of different learning methodologies with up-to-date and relevant articles is key to success, as is providing clear information on course requirements.
