Library use and membership, loans and renewals

  • Membership / library cards
    When you visit the KIT library, you can search the catalogue and consult journals, books, maps and CD-ROMs free of charge. However, books are lent to holders of Library cards only. To obtain a Library card and become a member of the KIT Library, valid proof of identity is required.
    KIT Library card (basic pass) costs € 15 / per year. Library services fees are available on request.

    You may consider a KIT Membership. For € 35,- / per year, you can become a member of KIT and benefit from a range of attractive discounts.  The KIT membership contains free entrance to the Tropenmuseum, the KIT Library and discounts at the Topentheater. You will also receive regular updates on (cultural) activities and developments within KIT.

 

  • Lending books
    Books are lent to holders of KIT Library cards only. You can borrow 10 books at a time for a period of 4 weeks. To obtain a Library card, you have to become a member of KIT Library. Borrowing books without a membership costs € 4,50.

 

  • Make a book reservation
    You can make a book reservation following this procedure: search in the catalogue, within each record you find the button "Request Item". Use this button to order the book. The books will be held at the library for a period of 3 working days. If a book is temporarily unavailable, you will be notified by e-mail. Books can be sent by mail within the Netherlands to Library members living outside Amsterdam (there will be a charge for postage).

 

  • Renew your loans
    To renew your loans, please use this form. Books cannot be renewed if:
    • Reservations have been made by other library users
    • The maximum loan period has expired

 

  • Consultation of journals/CD-ROMs/maps
    When you visit the KIT library, you can search the catalogue and consult journals, books, maps and CD-ROMs free of charge. Journals/periodicals, maps and books older than 50 years cannot be borrowed or photocopied, but can all be consulted on the premises. Library staff members are available to provide assistance.

 

  • Consultation Cultural Heritage
    Publications older than 75 years cannot be borrowed or photocopied. These assets can be consulted only on certain conditions. Please contact the library.

 

  • Reading Room
    The Reading room is freely accessible to study in a quiet environment. You can also rent the Reading Room for special occasions related to KIT activities.

 

Limited visiting hours Reading Room

The Library is closed Monday, May 28. The Reading Room is closed at 2 pm on Wednesday, May 23 and at 2 pm on Thursday, May 31. The KIT Library is open! Visiting hours are Monday through Thursday 10 am till 5 pm.
