Welcome to the Colonial Heritage Site of the library of the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT). The KIT holds an important collection of books, brochures and magazines on the former Dutch colonies. The library of the KIT with its heritage collection belongs to one of the leading institutes for research on the shared history of Indonesia and the Netherlands, and of the Netherlands and Suriname and the Antilles. KIT has started a project to digitize a part of this heritage. The aim of this project is to contribute to the preservation of the original sources and to make these source materials accessible online for scholars, students and others interested in colonial history. It is possible to search the full text of the digitized documents. There are also simple and advanced search options as well as browse options.

  • Een reis door Oost-Java

    Vissering, C.M.,. Een reis door Oost-Java Haarlem: De erven F. Bohn, 1912.

    Dit reisverslag verscheen in 1912 . Ze is niet de enige vrouw die in 1912 door Nederlands-Indië reist en verslag van haar reiservaringen uitbrengt. Aletta Jacobs maakt dat jaar ook een rondreis door Indië en ook haar reisverslag zou een jaar later in boekvorm verschijnen. Na 1870 kwamen er, als gevolg van de opening van het Suezkanaal in 1869, meer Europese vrouwen naar Indië waardoor de koloniale samenleving meer Europees werd.

  • Tropisch Nederland

    Tropisch Nederland. Veertiendaagsch tijdschrift ter verbreiding van kennis omtrent Nederlandsch Oost- en West-Indië, is een geïllustreerd tijdschrift dat twee maal per maand verscheen. Dit tijdschrift is een podium voor de ethische richting dat zich inzet voor de belangen van de Indonesische bevolking en meer zelfstandigheid voor de kolonie tot doel heeft. Het verscheen tussen 1928 en 1940. De eerste jaargang is gedigitaliseerd. De overige jaargangen volgen binnenkort.

  • Kitab tenoen

    Abdulkadir, Raden Ajoe Bintang, Kitab tenoen. Peroesoesahaän Djawa, Djokjakarta: Buning, 1925.

    Dit is het boek van het weven. Een Javaanse onderneming. Dit boek is uitgegeven in samenwerking met Wanito Oetomo, de ‘Javaansche vrouwenvereniging ter bevordering van inheemsche huisvlijt’.
