KIT develops and carries out training on gender and development, particularly gender awareness raising, gender analysis and planning, gender mainstreaming and gender-inclusive citizenship.
Approach
KIT has long been an innovator in developing and conducting training on gender and development, particularly gender awareness raising, gender analysis and planning, gender mainstreaming and gender-inclusive citizenship.
Training includes a variety of approaches from international training programmes at KIT, in-country short workshops and professional accompaniment interventions. Also, KIT contributes to thinking and reflecting upon the state of gender training through its publications on gender training and organizing international meetings.
The international courses and training workshops are geared towards gender advocates as well as development practitioners working at different institutional levels ranging from women’s activist organizations, NGOs and research institutions to national governments and UN agencies.
The core training team for each course consists of KIT senior gender advisors, with both practical and academic experience, trainers from leading institutions in the South and faculty invited from research and development institutions.
Focal points
- Individualized training needs assessments
- Custom-designed curricula and training approaches
- Development of training resources and provision of other post-training support
Example
Gender training for UN agencies
While the UN has been at the forefront of gender mainstreaming, its staff requested gender training in order to make the UN gender policies relevant to their work. KIT provided custom-designed training for UNDP gender advisors and programme staff and UNESCO professional staff.
Revisiting gender training: the making and remaking of gender knowledge
KIT critically examines the thinking and practice of gender training. More than a review of methods and tools, the initiative strives to explore long-acknowledged challenges to engendering awareness, attitudes and skills.
