Maproom

The map room was founded in 1926 as a special department of KIT Library. The collection includes approximately 25.000 topographic and thematic maps and almost 800 atlases of (sub) tropical countries. In building the collection, special attention has been given to topographic overview maps, topographic maps series at a scale of 1:250.000, thematic maps, city maps and national atlases of all (sub) tropical countries. The collection is particularly strong in the areas of the former Dutch colonies. Almost all official published maps from Indonesia (before 1950) are available. Special attention is given to a huge collection of city maps from Indonesia which have the now obsolete Dutch streetnames. Surinam and the Dutch Antilles are also well represented.
