KIT Biomedical Research

The core activity of KIT Biomedical Research is the field of "Essential Diagnostics".

For many (neglected) infectious diseases no licensed vaccines exist and considering the high development costs associated with development, these will not be developed in the foreseeable future. Correct and timely diagnosis followed by adequate treatment is vital to minimize the impact of the diseases. Both the crucial role of diagnostics and the high financial investments associated with it, justify the development of guidelines and policies to enhance their rational and cost-effective use. In addition, this provides good reasons to develop diagnostics that meet the requirements of low-income countries.

KIT Biomedical Research is a leader in the field of developing essential diagnostics for tropical infectious diseases. Its staff develops, improves and evaluates diagnostic tests and methods, performs epidemiological studies and advises and supports other organisations, especially in low-income countries, in their efforts to diagnose those diseases.
