Grachtenfestival at KIT
On Saturday 8 August, KIT welcomes the Grachtenfestival for a special evening of North Indian classical music. As part of the festival’s 2026 Artist in Residence program, trombonist Arjan Linker and tabla player Niti Ranjan Biswas will perform a series of traditional ragas at KIT Theatre.
Ragas are musical frameworks associated with specific moods, emotions and moments of the day. Through improvisation, the musicians guide the audience on a journey that moves from meditative and reflective passages to energetic rhythmic peaks. Because improvisation is at the heart of this musical tradition, no two performances are ever the same.
Niti Ranjan Biswas is one of Europe’s leading tabla players, while Arjan Linker is internationally recognized for his pioneering work bringing the trombone into the world of Indian classical music. Together, they create a unique dialogue between musical traditions, blending centuries-old musical heritage with a fresh and distinctive sound.
