Issue Killers trainees present social impact campaigns at closing event

On Friday 19 December, 46 young trainees will present the results of the seventh edition of Issue Killers, the 12-week traineeship programme by KIT and TheRockGroup in collaboration with Maatschappelijke Dienst Tijd. During the closing event at KIT Live, they will showcase twelve campaigns addressing current social and societal issues.

Issue Killers supports young people in turning their concerns about societal challenges into concrete action. Guided by professionals, the trainees worked on both their personal and professional development, as well as on campaigns with tangible impact. Inspirational sessions with speakers such as Jerry Afriyie (Nederland Wordt Beter) and Pieter Sellies (FossielVrij NL) encouraged them to take an activist and goal-oriented approach.

The campaigns range from an initiative addressing excessive mobile phone use in cafés, which resulted in collaborations with Amsterdam-based hospitality venues and an opinion piece in Het Parool, to an action raising awareness and support for people experiencing homelessness, which raised over €1,000.

The closing event of Issue Killers also marks the opening of a presentation of photo series by Debra Barraud (Humans of Amsterdam), portraying young people with lived experience of homelessness. The series highlights the diversity and often unseen nature of homelessness, and invites visitors to reconsider existing perceptions and assumptions.
