KIT proud of the sustainable redevelopment of its hotel tower at Oosterpark

KIT is proud to announce the redevelopment of its hotel tower at Oosterpark, located right next to the monumental KIT building. After an extensive renovation, the tower is ready for a new chapter. Hotel V Oosterpark – part of the sustainable Conscious Group – and the hospitality concept Orchid House have recently opened as the new operators of the building. Together, they are breathing new life into the tower and contributing to a vibrant and forward-looking vision for the KIT grounds.

The former Tropenhotel was thoroughly renovated and completely transformed by Heembouw, commissioned by KIT. The design, created by Wiel Arets Architects, applies a form of “modern archaeology”: the concrete skeleton of the original structure was preserved and carefully integrated into the new design. The tower was completely stripped, made more sustainable, and fitted with an elegant glass façade. The result is a sleek, future-proof building that contrasts strikingly with the lush greenery of Oosterpark.

We are delighted to have found suitable, like-minded operators for the hotel and restaurant. We warmly welcome them and wish them all the best at this unique location in Amsterdam East.

This allows us to focus on our other activities in the monumental KIT building, including the KIT Campus – a community of more than 1,000 people working toward an inclusive and sustainable world – our knowledge center KIT Institute, our theater KIT Live, and the conference and event facilities of KIT Events.
