West Africa Farmer Innovation Fair Demonstrates Farmer-Led Research
In May 2015, Burkina Faso hosted the West Africa Farmer Innovation Fair (Foire de l’Innovation Paysanne en Afrique de l’Ouest FIPAO) in Ouagadougou, showcasing over 50 farmer innovations from eight countries in the Sahel region: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo. The fair was an initiative of the Prolinnova/PROFEIS network that promotes local innovation processes in agriculture and natural resource management.

A Positive Business Case for Sustainable Spices
Together with the Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH), KIT conducted research into the costs and benefits of making spice trade more sustainable. Looking at the case of Vietnamese black pepper, we were able to recommend important aspects of trade to invest in, for instance in improving agricultural systems and involving the food industry in sustainable trade.
