Dorcas Amponsah
My name is Amponsah Dorcas from Ghana. I am a registered nurse and a physician assistant with several years of clinical practice in both fields at different Government hospitals in Ghana. I also work as a volunteer to Reach Out Medical team, an NGO which gives free medical, and surgical health services to the less privileged people living in rural communities that are hard to reach with basic health care services.
I developed special interest in sexual and reproductive health and rights of young persons living in Developed and developing countries. It is my ambition to be a public health professional with special focus on advocacy and a researcher to contribute in improving young persons sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Help young people make informed decisions
The Ghanaian population is made up of different tribes with different cultural and religious backgrounds. It is very difficult in dealing with sexuality issues and rights. Sexual reproductive health and right issues are less talked about in our society for cultural or religious reasons. As a result most of these young persons do not know whom to talk to or where to turn to so end up with ideas from their peers which mostly ends in teenage pregnancies and it’s complications, STI including HIV/AIDS. These young people constitute the future of our society and must be helped to make informed decisions and right choices on their sexual behaviors. We therefore need expertise, skills and knowledge to improve and solve our sexual reproductive health problems.
I have no doubt that the Master of international health at KIT with it’s research oriented module will equip me with better knowledge and advanced skills in research to enable me contribute in promoting young person’s sexual and reproductive health and rights both locally and internationally. Also, this program will create the networking opportunities linking me up with experts in the area of my study focus. Thank you so much for this great opportunity as this is really a fulfillment of my dream to be able to offer great service to my community and country.
