Asma Al-Ali

My name is Asma and I am a medical doctor from Yemen. As a health professional I have been working in the field of reproductive health in very challenging contexts. The current dire humanitarian situation in Yemen caused by war, political turmoil and economic collapse needs mobilizing all the available resources to alleviate the suffering of Yemeni people, mainly the most vulnerable ones.

The role of qualified health professionals is of high importance in this crisis. Unfortunately, there is a considerable gap in knowledge and skills, both theoretical and practical. For my work studying the Master in International Health is of great value and a very important step. I believe that pursuing this master degree will enhance my knowledge, professional career, and leadership.

After this year I will be better able to contribute effectively to my people's resilience and development. It will also enable me, as a woman, to overcome some of the aspects of gender-bias that exist in Yemen.

After this year I will be better able to contribute effectively to my people’s resilience and development. It will also enable me, as a woman, to overcome some of the aspects of gender-bias that exist in Yemen. I will learn, interact and exchange ideas and experience with health professionals from diverse countries and communities. I look forward to taking a role in the implementation of health projects once I go back to my country and put to practice all the experience I gained this year..
