Background
Obstetrician, Gynecologist

My name is Bethlehem Loulseged, an obstetrician and gynecologist at one of Ethiopia’s largest university hospitals. I have led collaborations and partnered with international organizations like ExAC for research projects. I have also worked on improving our clinical service and training maternal healthcare workers.

Challenges in Ethiopian Sexual and Reproductive Health

Ethiopia is a country with numerous opportunities for growth and development, but none as essential and urgent as those issues facing sexual and reproductive health care (SRH) and rights. Women’s healthcare professionals face numerous issues that make optimisation of care difficult. These barriers range from social and cultural influences to economic and political instability. There is a need for more professionals who are well equipped for in-depth analysis of public health concerns and planning and implementation of an effective response.

Aspiring for Impact through KIT

At KIT, I aim to refine my skills through theoretical knowledge development and practical skills expansion. The network I build will offer insights into critical global SRH concerns.

I want to strengthen advocacy for and contribute to the realization of gender equality and its subsequent outcome of not only improved but cutting-edge women’s health care.

A Shared Responsibility

Mao Zedong once said, “Women hold up half the sky”. As SRH professionals, it is our responsibility to ensure these SHR rights are upheld and the care is secured.
