Background
Public Health Proffesional

My name is Eiman Elgaali, and I am a public health professional from Sudan. With a medical degree in hand, I quickly realized that to truly make an impact in my community, I needed to take a grassroots approach. This insight propelled me to shift my focus toward collaboration and community engagement.

Early diagnosis and treatment can save lives in Sudan

During my time with the Ministry of Health in Sudan, I worked in the Maternal and Child Health department. I witnessed first-hand the significant difference we could make in children’s lives through early diagnosis and treatment of manageable health issues. Many of these cases had been overlooked, often due to barriers like accessibility, affordability, and lack of education.

My journey continued with Mazaya Organization, a national NGO dedicated to addressing cervical and breast cancer. Here I took great pride in establishing a standardized reporting system for data collection and launching a community champions program. This initiative empowered women to spread awareness, and its success was a testament to the strength of our collaboration with the community. Additionally, I had the privilege of serving as a consultant with WHO-EMRO, focusing on vulnerable populations, including prisoners and cross-border communities.

Return to amplify local voices in policy discussions

Throughout my diverse experiences, two common threads remained: the need to amplify the voices of vulnerable populations who are often overlooked and the absence of a standardized health information system.   This realization inspired me to seek out a Public Health Master’s program.

My personal goal is to learn from shared experiences and dialogues how to effectively tackle these pressing issues. I aim to return to my community equipped with knowledge to amplify local voices and involve grassroots and community-based organizations in policy discussions. I Want to establish a strong foundation of health information that can withstand the ongoing challenges of change and conflict.
