I am Khlood Fathi Alnaeem, a preventive medicine resident from Sudan. I conducted research and updated the the malaria treatment protocols. I also contributed with supervision activities to the monitoring and evaluation department and trained healthcare providers on the updated protocols.
Since the start of the conflict in Sudan, I was displaced twice, moved more than 13 times seeking shelter, and immigrated three times.

Battling malaria in conflict-affected Sudan

Sudan faces multiple challenges. To begin with, malaria is a major killing disease in my country affecting children under five the most. Almost 70% of the population is at risk. This while there is a lack of access to free antimalarial treatment, good infrastructure to deliver support, proper malaria diagnosis and skilled human resources.
These challenges only grow more complex while we face continuous conflicts with waves of displacements in the west, south and east. After the capital Khartoum was attacked, more than ten million people are displaced, one of the largest neglected humanitarian crises.

With pursuing this Master, I aim to complete the knowledge gap that is accentuated by the war and to equip me to deal with the complicated conflict situation.

Fewer deaths due to preventable illness

Bringing this knowledge home will lead to fewer deaths due to preventable illness, just because of poverty and a lack of privileges. After this Master, I hope to complete my medical doctorate, in which case I will be able to take up leadership positions to influence policies and plans.
