Background
Master in Economics and a Bachelor’s in Business from Government City College, Chittagong
I am Nipa Das, a dedicated public health professional and social activist from Chittagong, Bangladesh. I hold a Master’s in economics and a Bachelor’s in business studies from Government City College, Chittagong. I have been focusing amongst other things on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) awareness for adolescents and I promoted proper Menstrual Hygiene Management. Besides that, I conducted research on strengthening SRHR knowledge among climate-affected populations and Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. This experience highlighted for me the critical intersection of climate change, displacement, and sexual and reproductive health.

Gender inequality and resistance to change in Bangladesh

The challenges I faced in my home country included gender inequality and resistance to change due to traditional and religious beliefs. There are also some issues with inadequate health knowledge, corruption in health sector, absence of strong monitoring system and there is an information gap.
During my work as the program officer, I identified critical knowledge gaps among staff responsible for adolescent SRHR education, which led to inaccurate information. Despite my efforts to address this issue, I encountered resistance due to a lack of authority. This experience underscored the necessity for improved staff training and monitoring systems.

I believe this program will equip me with the necessary skills to identify problems, develop evidence-based solutions and effectively present these to stakeholders.

Health education and monitoring

My personal goal this year is to enhance my professional competencies in public health through knowledge adaptation and skill development. Upon completing my Master’s, I plan to expand my scope of work in health education and monitoring, eventually moving into health sector advocacy.
