Background
Orthopeadic technology and I hold a BA in Public Health.

My name is Richard Obwol and I have a proven track record of developing and implementing education programs that drive significant increases in disability inclusion, effectiveness, and community support. My education has been in Orthopeadic technology and I hold a BA in Public Health. Previously I worked with Cheshire Services Uganda, advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities to access quality healthcare and education.

The impact of access to health care in Uganda

Over the last few years (2012-2024), Uganda has experienced outbreaks of Ebola virus disease, Marburg, yellow fever, anthrax, Rift Valley fever, polio, meningitis, avian influenza, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever and cholera, COVID-19, Red eyes, and Mpox. This has not only caused loss of lives but also economic hardships both at household and national levels.
What worries me every day is the effect of all these events on the vulnerable population, especially mothers who cannot access maternal health care services which eventually results in impairments among children. For example, many people in Uganda have disabilities as a result of the polio outbreak, all because of a lack of access to health care during this period.

Having lived with post-polio disability, I envision myself as a pivotal member of the senior management team, driving initiatives that ensure inclusive, affordable, and sustainable healthcare for marginalized communities, especially those with disabilities.

Influencing inclusive health policies

I aspire to transition into international public health organizations with a rich tapestry of experiences and honed skills at the forefront of healthcare initiatives. I want to deliver high-quality services to vulnerable populations, influencing inclusive health policies, and providing oversight roles in the global health sector.

This year, I want to focus on grasping knowledge and skills from the knowledgeable lecturers, share experiences and opportunities and learn from the diverse class.
