Background
Physician

I am Ni Ketut Lestari, a medical doctor from Bali, Indonesia. For the last 7 years, I have been working as a physician in HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and research in Denpasar, Bali.

Addressing Rising HIV Cases Among Women

Data from Indonesia’s Ministry of Health indicates 35% of women are affected by HIV, largely due to limited awareness about HIV prevention and having partners with high-risk sexual behavior. I discovered that these women encounter various challenges, including health issues related to HIV/AIDS, stigma and discrimination from their families and communities, difficulties in accessing healthcare services, financial difficulties due to unemployment, and some even experience severe mental health issues. These matters deeply concern me.

Pursuing Knowledge and Solutions

I have a positive perspective about studying in the Netherlands. I chose the Master in International Health at the KIT Royal Tropical Institute because this programme focuses on the health problems of vulnerable populations, including HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health in an international setting.

Empowering the Future: A Dream for Bali

The foundation will support women living with HIV/AIDS and women sex workers in Bali by providing comprehensive services, treatment, and social and psychological support.

I have a dream to establish an integrated health center and foundation for people living with HIV in Bali.
