Health systems research

Our work seeks to answer critical health development questions in low- and middle-income countries. This work includes the design, facilitation, and implementation of research projects across the spectrum of the health system. Our areas of health systems research expertise include governance and health policy, social determinants of health, community development, human resources for health, quality of care and health financing.

Our Approach

Our approach is participatory and action-oriented. We involve stakeholders from different levels and disciplines throughout the research cycle. We have expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research, including reviews of existing evidence. Our health systems research is always carried out in partnership with national researchers and partners, enabling us to simultaneously benefit from  and strengthen their capacities and expertise.

Furthermore, in all of our research programs, we incorporate capacity building elements. These range from the training of individuals to the development of research capacity in institutions. We adapt our research findings in order to communicate them effectively to different audiences. Examples include: peer-reviewed articles, presentations, videos, stakeholder briefings, knowledge platforms, policy briefs, and other publications.
