KIT Royal Tropical Institute is closely following the development of the Coronavirus/COVID-19 outbreak. We are adhering to guidelines issued by relevant authorities such as the Dutch National Institute for Public Health (RIVM) and the WHO.
The KIT building and the reception desk at Mauritskade 64 remain open. However, the Tropenmuseum has closed its doors to the public until March 31. De Tropen cafe and restaurant is also closed until April 6.
We follow the basic precautions against transmission:
- We don’t shake hands
- Wash our hands thoroughly and often
- Cover our mouths when coughing or sneezing using our arm.
KIT is encouraging staff to work at home as advised by the RIVM. Furthermore we take extra care of cleaning our building.
Are you starting a course or training at KIT?
The training programmes at KIT Health will continue and we will make use of distance based training. For courses starting in April and May, participants are guaranteed that they can follow these courses virtually. Even if the situation in the Netherlands allows face-to-face teaching again, we understand that travel restrictions may still apply for some participants. Those who are able to come, are welcome for the classes at KIT’s premises. We will deliver the virtual courses through a combination of live presentations using Zoom, virtual classroom discussions, group work, and self-paced activities to be done at home. Interaction is very much part of KIT’s teaching methods, so we will ensure a high degree of participation.
Do you have questions? We have compiled information in the form of questions and answers.
