Neglected Tropical Diseases

Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) are a devastating group of health conditions that affect an estimated 1.6 billion people globally. NTDs are ubiquitous in low resource settings, disproportionately affecting the most impoverished communities in the world. Many NTDs are treatable and preventable with single dose of drugs, however challenges in consistent and effective delivery of interventions like drug distribution have in some cases stalled progress on global targets to eliminate NTDs.

The KIT epidemiology and health system strengthening teams are working on projects aimed at improving the targeting of interventions to the communities most at risk of infection. Through the development of a series of innovative tools that optimize the capacity to evaluate available data, we are seeking to understand how to best support country teams in improving control strategies for NTDs.

Beneficiary accountability is a critical part of effective development programming. It helps to ensure that interventions are transparent and appropriate for those they are designed to support. A critical part of accountability is beneficiary feedback. Beneficiary mechanisms (BFMs) not only help to enhance inclusion and empowerment but also enable a better understanding of why an intervention is less effective, allowing […]
