Best Research Poster Award at ECTMIH 2025 for Afghanistan Health Workforce Study

We’re excited to announce that KIT Epidemiologist Nima Yaghmaei and colleagues from KIT Institute were awarded Best Research Poster at the European Congress on Tropical Medicine and International Health (ECTMIH) 2025 in Hamburg.

The winning research, conducted in collaboration with World Health Organization Afghanistan  presents a comprehensive situational analysis of Afghanistan’s national health workforce and its capacity for achieving universal health coverage. Using innovative ‘lean’ and ‘barefoot’ epidemiology methods to overcome significant contextual challenges, KIT Institute’s research team mapped the distribution of healthcare workers across the country, revealing critical shortages particularly in rural areas and significant gender disparities within the workforce.

This award recognises and highlights the importance of conducting rigorous research in challenging environments and the value of evidence-based insights in crisis-affected contexts.
