Second High-Level Event on the Netherlands’ Role in Global Health Underway

KIT Institute, together with leading global health partners will host “Health and Prosperity: Stronger Together through Global Health Investment” at Nieuwspoort in The Hague, December 15th. Building on the first event in March, this follow-up meeting brings together Members of Parliament, global health experts, and civil society organisations to discuss the future of Dutch engagement in global health at a pivotal moment for international cooperation.

As the Netherlands enters a new political cycle, the event will examine how Dutch expertise, innovation, and long-standing commitment to multilateral cooperation contribute to global well-being while strengthening national security, resilience, and economic interests.

A Critical Juncture for Global Health

The event addresses urgent challenges facing the global health landscape: emerging threats such as pandemics and antimicrobial resistance, reductions in Official Development Assistance (ODA), mounting pressure on health systems worldwide, and threats to fundamental human rights. These trends demand smart, forward-looking investments that support global stability and sustain the Netherlands’ role as a trusted partner on the world stage.

Programme Highlights

The morning begins with an introduction to the global health landscape, providing context on the architecture of international health cooperation and the Netherlands’ historical leadership role.

An opening address will be delivered by Peter-Derrek Hof, Director of Social Development and Ambassador for Women’s Rights and Gender Equality at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, followed by a presentation from Krystal Mwesiga Birungi, Field Entomology Coordinator at Target Malaria Uganda, who will share field perspectives on the impact of global health cooperation.

A distinguished expert panel will examine progress achieved through Dutch and international partnerships, exploring what is at stake amid shifting political and financial priorities.
Panellists include:

Members of Parliament will be invited to reflect on the topics discussed during the panel.

The morning session will be followed by a closed, private session in a speed-dating format, intended for Members of Parliament and thematic experts.

This World TB Day, we’re reminded that ending TB is possible — even as climate-related disasters make it increasingly difficult. Last year, our global health teams interviewed 10 TB programme implementers from Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, Zambia, and Zimbabwe about how climate-related disasters affect TB services — and how geospatial tools can […]
