In class teaching at KIT is following all necessary measures to ensure everyone’s safety and if face-to-face classes are not possible, we can switch to online teaching.
KIT Royal Tropical Institute is closely adhering to the regulations from the Dutch authorities and the Dutch National Institute for Public Health (RIVM).

Master Programmes in 2022
Our master programmes are an opportunity for health and development professionals to further develop your competencies in specific areas related to global health.
- Master in International Health
Course dates: start dates 7 March 2022 or 12 September 2022. Full-time or part-time option possible (1 up to 5 years)
The aim of this programme is to develop the capacity of health professionals working at the interface of international organisations and national health systems.
- Netherlands Course on Global Health and Tropical Medicine (NTC) (core course Master in International Health or stand-alone course,)
Course dates: 7 March – 10 June 2022 or 12 September – 16 December 2022 (given twice a year)
This course provides essential preparation for health professionals such as medical doctors, nurses and midwives planning to work in low and middle income countries.
- Master of Public Health
Course dates: 12 September 2022 – 1 September 2023
This annual 12-month programme is organised by KIT Royal Tropical Institute and the VU Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Participants can choose from the following study tracks:- MPH – Track in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights
- MPH – Track in Health Systems Policy and Management

- Core course Public Health
Course dates: 19 September – 9 December 2022
This 3 month course prepares health managers to use a public health approach to address the problems in their country, taking into account epidemiology, health system aspects and broader social determinants of health.
- NEW Part-time Master of Public Health
If you cannot leave your home/job for one full year, it is now possible to study the MPH programme in parts, divided over 2-3 years.

Courses on Disease Management
- Control Strategies for Communicable and non-communicable diseases
Course dates: 11 April – 4 May 2022
In this course a number of communicable and non-communicable diseases are used as models to demonstrate different aspects and principles of disease control.
- GIS for Global Health
Course dates: 20 June – 1 July 2022
You will learn how to use GIS to identify patterns of disease in time and place and to assess public access to health care services.
Courses on Health Systems Strengthening
- Qualitative Methods in Health Systems Research
Course dates: 19 January – 8 February 2022 – waitinglist
Participants gain experience in each step of the qualitative research process and learn ways to enhance the utilisation of research results. - Human Resources for Health – waitinglist
Course dates: 14 – 25 February 2022
This course provides knowledge and skills that health care managers, policy makers and planners need for human resource management. It discusses strategies at country and workplace level to address health workforce issues.
- Health Policy and Financing
Course dates: 16 May – 3 June 2022
An in-depth look at important issues and current debates in health policy, health economics and health financing, taking into account the diverse profit and not for profit systems.
- Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) in a dynamic health environment
Course dates: 15 – 26 August 2022
Provides a deeper understanding of the role that M&E plays in all aspects of the health system, with a broad range of tools and methods. (Eligible for OKP scholarship, read more below)
- Suivi et Evaluation de la Sante dans un contexte dynamique (M&E course in French)

Courses on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, and HIV and AIDS
- Sexual and Reproductive health and Rights including HIV and AIDS
Course dates: 7-25 March 2022
This course explores key principles of SRHR practice across a range of content areas. It also explores key considerations for SRHR and HIV policy and practices.
- Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights: Organising Effective Responses
Course dates: 11 April – 4 May 2022
This course builds on current evidence to critically identify and analyse responses across the health system, including emergency and fragile state settings. It also focuses on making services equitable accessible to marginalised groups and key populations.
- Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights: Policy, Governance and Financing
Course dates: 16 May – 3 June 2022
In this course participants become acquainted with the policy instruments, governance mechanisms and financial structures related to SRHR.
- Santé et Droits Sexuels et Reproductifs (in FRENCH)
Course dates: 13 – 24 June 2022
Ce cours explore les principes clés de la SDSR à travers différents thèmes.
Scholarships Orange Knowledge Programme
Upcoming application period: Winter 2022
The Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP), funded by The Netherlands Government aims to advance the capacity, knowledge and quality of both individuals and institutions of higher and vocational education. Talented health professionals from 37 eligible OKP countries can apply for a full scholarship to study a Master programme or short course at KIT.

Application period Orange Knowledge Programme Scholarship
If you want to apply for a scholarship from the Orange Knowledge Programme, make sure you first apply for academic admission to KIT.
- Deadline KIT Royal Tropical Institute for academic admission (if applying for OKP): as soon as possible but at the latest by 24 February 2022. Please note that you need to submit English proficiency test results. Therefore we advise you to start your application process as soon as possible if you are interested.
- Registration period OKP: Probably between 5 February – 17 March 2022, exact dates to be confirmed.
Attention: the list of eligible countries for OKP has changed recently. If you are a health professional from one of the 37 eligible OKP countries we strongly encourage you to apply for an OKP scholarship!
Eligible countries for Orange Knowledge Scholarship: Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guatemala, Guinea, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Liberia, Mali, Mozambique, Myanmar, Niger, Nigeria, Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Suriname, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Vietnam, Yemen, Zambia.
Visit our OKP scholarship page for more information on the eligibility requirements, the 37 eligible countries, detailed regulations and application instructions. Have a close look also to the priorities of the Netherlands embassies in these countries. In some cases the Netherlands Embassies have a focus on Health or SRHR which makes the chances to get a scholarship higher.

World Bank Scholarship
The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Programme is open to citizens of certain developing countries with relevant professional experience and a history of supporting their countries’ development efforts who are applying to a master degree program in a development-related topic.
Eligible programme: Master of Public Health-Track in Health Systems Policy and Management
Application period: 17 January – 28 February 2022 (noon Washington time)
