KIT Institute proudly presents the Master in Public Health and Health Equity (MPH-HE). This new Master programme organised by KIT and VU University Amsterdam is a mid-career Master of Science programme that will start in September 2024.

It is a progressive merger of the Master of Public Health and Master in International Health and combines experience going back as far as 1963 with new insights and adapted to the changed public health landscape. The MPH-HE caters specifically to mid-career professionals aspiring to contribute significantly to global health outcomes.

Public Health and Health Equity in a Changing Environment

Health systems in low- and middle-income countries face a wide range of complex challenges. These include, among others, the inequalities in health and healthcare; the double burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases; the unfolding demographic transition; and the health needs in fragile and conflict-affected settings. These challenges disproportionately affect disadvantaged populations worldwide, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

Specialised Learning for Impact

The MPH-HE offers a contemporary and interdisciplinary curriculum with a primary emphasis on health equity in low-resource settings and in high-resource settings with disadvantaged populations, using a gender and inclusive approach.

The new programme offers five specialization tracks with full-time and part-time options. Four specialization tracks with predefined modules on Epidemiology, Health Systems and Policy, and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, and one tailor-made track are offered as full-time 12 month programmes. A fifth track on Selected Challenges and Solutions in Public Health is offered part-time (1-5 years) and allows participants to follow modules both at KIT and at member institutions of the tropEd network.

The core course of the Master programme: Core Course in Public Health and Health Equity can be followed as a separate course. It prepares participants to systematically analyse and address complex public health issues, covering epidemiology, health system aspects, and broader social determinants of health.

Accreditation

The Master of Public Health and Health Equity is accredited under VU by the Netherlands-Flemish Accreditation Organization (NVAO). This accreditation ensures that the programme adheres to rigorous educational standards. VU ranks highly in the Academic Ranking of World Universities. KIT Master students obtain a VU degree upon graduation.

With a multidisciplinary team of researchers, educators and advisors, KIT has over sixty years of experience training professionals in global health who have lasting impacts on health service delivery in their home countries and around the world. KIT training programmes respond to current global health developments and are known for their practical application, multidisciplinary approach and interactive participatory training methods.
