New Report from Nestlé’s Income Accelerator Program Shows Impact on Cocoa Farm Incomes and Resilience

A new progress report from KIT Institute offers fresh insights on the impact of Nestlé’s Income Accelerator Program (IAP).

The Income Accelerator Program, launched in 2022, is designed to improve the income levels of cocoa farming households in Côte d’Ivoire while addressing child labour risk. KIT Institute, alongside the Rainforest Alliance and the International Cocoa Initiative (ICI), is the programme’s knowledge partner, conducting a yearly independent evaluation of the program.

This independent report examines the impact of the test-at-scale phase after 30 months of implementation. The program continued to boost farm investments and the adoption of good agricultural practices, contributing to 18% higher cocoa yields and 26% higher cocoa revenues among participating households, despite challenging weather conditions.

Cash transfers played a central role in enabling these gains and in improving household resilience, food security, financial inclusion, and women’s empowerment. However, despite higher incomes, the report finds no progress in closing the living income gap, partly due to increases in household size and living costs. The programme also had no significant effect on income diversification.

KIT Institute recommends simplifying the cash transfer system, improving the reliability of mobile payments, and investing more strategically in alternative income-generating activities to strengthen and sustain the impact as the programme scales.

To discuss the findings in more depth, Nestlé will host a public webinar on Wednesday, 25 June 2025 from 14:30 to 16:00 CEST. The event will bring together voices from the field, implementing partners, and independent evaluators.
