- Understanding of how BRAC’s gender training is positioned within the organisation’s gender strategy (draft) and overall strategy (2016-2020)
- Understanding of how gender training has been conceived in terms of content, design and delivery
- recommend how BRAC gender training can be revised to support the organisation’s gender strategy.
What is BRAC?
BRAC, established in 1972, is the world’s largest development organisation. In Bangladesh, BRAC has been at the forefront of addressing women’s empowerment and gender inequality in its various programmes ranging from microfinance, to health and education. Gender training was introduced in the 1990s with the aim of making BRAC a gender-aware organization.
The KIT review included consultations and interviews with senior managers and staff of different BRAC programmes and GJD, interviews and focus group discussions with gender trainers and trainees, observation of gender trainings as well as field visits.
It covered various aspects of the training programme including overall design, curriculum and content, how gender training works in practice, training infrastructure, gender trainers, evaluation and BRAC’s theory of change.
Results
The results of the review and its recommendations have been influential in shaping the restructuring and redesign of BRAC’s gender training programme as part of its new One BRAC strategy (2016-2020).
