KIT was hired by sustainable development organisation SNV to conduct an external, independent evaluation of household food security in Burkina Faso. The evaluation strengthens SNV’s accountability to funders and improves its work on food security.
Food security as vital development aspect
SNV West-Africa has put food security at the top of its development agenda for the last seven years. As part of its regular evaluation process SNV hired KIT to evaluate its work on household food security for a specific population in Burkina Faso.
In this area, SNV uses the Family Farm Management System tool to support economic and technical improvement for local household farms.
The report evaluates:
- food availability, including production and (household) stocks
- food access, including income, and assets (incl. capital and resource access)
- stability of food security over time, and
- causal relations between interventions and their effects.
Through the evaluation, SNV will be able to make its work in food security more effective, specifically targeting self-sufficiency in food and increased incomes in farm households.
