The KIT MATCH Approach for Enhancing TB Care Coverage

The MATCH approach supports tuberculosis programmes to optimise resource use by leveraging multiple sources of disaggregated spatial and demographic data to develop locally tailored, differentiated interventions. This local differentiation is required to effectively identify and treat populations with ongoing tuberculosis transmission, thereby accelerating progress toward TB control and elimination goals.

KIT Centre for Applied Spatial Epidemiology’s (CASE) MATCH approach is a geospatial analysis framework that integrates routine health surveillance data with multiple sources of geographically, temporally, and demographically disaggregated data. Its core purpose is to identify local gaps in disease detection and healthcare access at subnational levels. By linking program data with spatial risk factors, users of MATCH create targeted, differentiated interventions tailored to local contexts at different levels of programme planning and implementation. This leads to more efficient use of resources, improved case detection, and better health outcomes. The approach supports cost-effective planning by guiding health managers to prioritize interventions based on local evidence and disparities between resources and needs.

Who is MATCH for?

National Tuberculosis Programmes can use MATCH in collaboration with their health system partners. To do this it is important to train health care professionals how to use data to target tuberculosis interventions. In addition it is also key to foster a greater sense of ownership among data users and policy makers.

A country can plan more effective local interventions by linking data to policy objectives. Furthermore, countries can also plan more effective local interventions by combining and simplifying complex data into a more intuitive format, and building capacity for data management and analytical techniques. The end result is the MATCH approach can greatly reduce the burden of tuberculosis in communities.
