The Living Income Community of Practice, co-hosted by GIZ, ISEAL and the Sustainable Food Lab and the GIZ Programme “Sustainable Supply Chains and Standards” are currently calculating ‘Living Income’ Benchmarks for the cocoa producing regions in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.
The Living Income Benchmark studies estimate the net income required for a decent standard of living for a typical family in these regions. In order to understand the gap between the actual incomes and the Living Income Benchmark, a gap analysis needed to be carried out based on the most recent data.
KIT Royal Tropical Institute collected data between November 2016 and March 2017 on current income diversification strategies and crop production activities involving 3,045 farming households in cocoa growing areas in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. This data is the starting point for the gap analysis.
