Myrte Wassenaar is medical doctor and researcher from the Netherlands. She works as a junior advisor in the Health Systems Strengthening team at KIT Institute.

Myrte holds a degree in medicine and research from Utrecht University, a degree in biomedicine and public health from Amsterdam University College and has also studied at the National University of Singapore and Peking University.

At KIT, Myrte contributes to a multi-year DG SANTE and HaDEA initiative to establish an EU-wide training programme for public health specialists in emergency preparedness. She leads the planning, coordination and delivery of national workshops and exchange visits throughout EU Member States and EEA countries on key health security themes.

Her work also includes quantitative analyses across multiple projects, including a situational assessment of the Afghan health workforce for WHO EMRO, and multi-year third-party monitoring and evaluation of national health services in Afghanistan, where she leads the quarterly analysis of Health Management Information System (HMIS) data for all provinces.

Before joining KIT, she worked ​at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) on childhood immunisation and malaria chemoprevention in Sierra Leone.

    EPIC11 strengthens Europe’s collective ability to prevent, prepare for, and respond to serious cross-border health threats. Through a comprehensive training programme, national workshops, and exchange visits, it builds the skills, coordination, and collaboration needed among public health professionals and institutions across EU and EEA countries. The project contributes to a more connected and resilient European public health system by investing in cross-border cooperation and cross-sectoral partnerships.
