as part of the Master of Science in Public Health and Health Equity (MPH) or other tropEd master programmes. Courses are given in various formats: in classrooms at KIT or, where indicated, as e-learning courses. We are also happy to offer several courses on public health issues in French.

Short courses on Health Systems Strengthening

KIT Institute’s short courses are practical, focused and complete in themselves. Most can also be taken as part of our Master’s programmes

  • Global perspectives on Digital Health

    This two-week course offers an introduction and overview of digital health, including a strong emphasis on how in reality, digital health functions in various settings. Participants will discuss how digital health interventions can help push the triple aim of Universal Health Coverage and Sustainable Goal Development for more people at a lower cost in different settings in high-, low- and middle-income countries.

  • Health Policy and Financing

    Progress towards Universal Health Coverage requires equitable and effective health policies and financial arrangements. But how do these policies come about? And how can health financing work to improve public health? This course looks at current debates in health policy and financing from a critical perspective.

  • Human Resources for Health

    This course provides knowledge and skills that health care managers, policy makers and planners need for human resource planning and management. It discusses policies, strategies and practices at a national and workplace level to address health workforce issues.

  • Monitoring and Evaluation in a dynamic health environment

    This advanced practitioners’ course equips participants with up-to-date knowledge and state-of-the-art monitoring and evaluation (M&E) tools enabling them to answer such questions as: What models, frameworks and tools are suitable for a specific evaluation? How to balance the perspectives of different stakeholders?

  • Qualitative Methods in Health Systems Research

    This course focuses on qualitative health systems research. Participants gain experience in each step of the qualitative research process and learn ways to enhance the utilisation of research results.

  • NEW: Health Planning and Programming

    Planning and programming are major components of programme management by any health system actor. In this course you will learn to address priority needs and establish objectives, define interventions and indicators, and develop a budget and the institutional setup.

  • SRHR: Policy, Governance and Financing

    In this course you become acquainted with the policy instruments, governance mechanisms and financial structures related to HIV and AIDS. You analyse political and institutional structures and their implications for planning and managing responses. You also learn to identify HIV and AIDS-related international agreements, conventions and financial mechanisms, and analyse how these influence national planning and implementation and vice versa.

  • SRHR: Organising Equitable Responses

    In this course, participants examine how to improve access to equitable, quality sexual and Reproductive Health/ HIV and AIDS services with a focus on rights, while improving integration of services as well as voice and participation.

  • NEW: SRHR Matters

    You embark on an exploration of inclusive, equitable, and rights-based approaches in this course, addressing comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) components that disproportionately impact underserved and marginalised populations globally, including in humanitarian and fragile settings.

  • Analysing Disrupted Health Systems

    If you are a health professional working in or with countries in crisis, working as health personnel in government institutions, NGOs, UN agencies and humanitarian organisations or as an independent consultant, then this course is intended for you.

  • Strengthening Disrupted Health Systems (E-Learning)

    Only given as Tailor Made course for groups in 2024. Keep an eye on this page for updates for 2025. This e-learning course strengthens your ability to address health system challenges in complex emergencies and fragile states. To prepare you for improving these challenging situations we will analyse health system resilience, policies, politics, roles and strategies of key actors, health equity, the humanitarian development nexus and more. This will enable you to develop context specific strategies for strengthening different elements of disrupted health systems.

  • NEW: Health Promotion and Disease Control Strategies

    Crises have a major impact on the health of people and health systems. This course provides you with an approach to analyse health systems operating in fragile and conflict-affected environments, both looking at key challenges as well as opportunities for addressing the main problems.

  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for Global Health

    Geographic Information Systems (GIS) provide tools for planning and monitoring of health interventions and disease control activities. GIS can be applied to improve health care delivery in disease control programmes. In this course you will use GIS to identify patterns of disease in time and place and to assess public access to health care services.

  • NEW: Foundations of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning in Public Health

    This dynamic two-week course equips you with essential skills and knowledge to navigate the landscape of evidence-informed decision-making in global public health. This course delves into the foundational principles of monitoring, evaluation, and learning within the frame of global public health.

  • NEW: Evidence for public health responses: Statistical Methods in Epidemiology

    This two-weeks course is designed to equip you with advanced statistical skills crucial for informed decision-making in public health. This course delves into essential methodologies for planning epidemiological field surveys, conducting sample size calculations, analysing complex survey data in Stata to address pressing public health challenges.

  • NEW: Impact Evaluations for Health Systems Strengthening

    This two-weeks course will equip you with advanced skills to evaluate health programmes and policies in global public health, with the ultimate aim of building strong and resilient health systems. This course delves into approaches, methodologies and tools for conducting rigorous impact evaluations to promote evidence-informed decision-making in public health.
