Issue Killers empowers a new generation of trainees through social impact campaigns

Issue Killers is a 12-week traineeship founded by KIT and TheRockGroup, and part of the Dutch Social Service Time (MDT). Under the guidance of professionals from the marketing and campaigning world, trainees learn how to turn their concerns about societal issues into concrete impact, while building valuable professional skills. 

At KIT, 47 young trainees have been developing social impact campaigns to launch in society. This edition, trainees followed inspiration sessions by Jerry Afriyie (Nederland Wordt Beter) and Pieter Sellies (FossielVrij NL). These sessions made a deep impression and helped trainees realise that their influence on the world is greater than they had imagined. 

We already had a first idea for a campaign, but their story motivated us to be more activist. Now we’re working on something that truly energises us.

In addition, teams received training and in-depth feedback from marketing experts at GoodDiggers and Morgenmakers to professionalize their campaigns and increase their real-world impact. 

The traineeship is now entering its final stage, and 12 campaigns have been launched. A selection from this edition includes: 

“LEG JIJ ’M OOK WEG?”: a campaign against excessive phone use in cafés. The initiative grew into collaborations with hospitality businesses across Amsterdam and resulted in an opinion piece in Het Parool

“Houd Mokum Warm”: a campaign focused on visibility and support for people experiencing homelessness. A sleep-out action that emerged from the campaign raised over €1,000 and received support from across the city. 

As always, the themes reflect the issues young adults care about and their desire to make the world a better place. 

Issue Killers continues to grow thanks to partners, educational institutions and organisations that give young people the space to experiment and make a real difference. We look forward to what lies ahead and to the impact this generation of trainees will create in the years to come.
