KIT and the United Nations Global Compact

In January 2021, KIT Royal Tropical Institute joined the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest Corporate Responsibility initiative with more than 13,000 participants in 140 countries. Launched in 2000 by the late UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, the Global Compact encourages companies to adopt sustainable and socially responsible business practices, and report on their implementation.

Goals of the Global Compact

The goal of the Global Compact is to mobilise a global movement of companies to create a more sustainable and inclusive world. To make this happen, the UN Global Compact supports companies to do business responsibly guided by their Ten Principles and to take strategic action to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The participants of the Global Compact are committed to upholding the Ten Principles of the Global Compact. These principles focus on four themes: improving Human Rights, Labour Rights, the Environment, and Anti-Corruption efforts.
