Arfan Ikram joins KIT’s Supervisory Board

Arfan Ikram has been appointed as a member of the KIT Supervisory Board with effect from March 25th. Arfan is Professor and Head of the Department of Epidemiology and Theme Chair in Health Sciences at Erasmus MC and Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology at LUMC and Harvard University (USA).

Arfan is a medical doctor by training, but since 2010, he has been fully dedicated to scientific research and teaching. His initial research focused on the causes, natural history and prevention of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. In recent years, Arfan has broadened his research to include ageing, multimorbidity and modifiable risk factors for chronic diseases. An important part of his research is the application and communication of innovative methods in medical research. This methodological aspect of epidemiology is also central to his teaching.

Since 2022, Arfan has also been Chairman of the Board of ZonMw and a member of the NWO Governing Council. Within these institutions, he manages the dossiers Open Science, Recognition and Valuation, Diversity and Inclusiveness, and Scientific Integrity, among others.
