KIT hosts Gaza Health Conference

Today, KIT is hosting an international conference of experts, practitioners and policymakers committed to restoring healthcare in Gaza.

The conference, organised by KIT Institute and the Gaza Health Initiative, is the third in a series of three international meetings to address critical and urgent healthcare needs in Gaza. A prominent guest joining the meeting in Amsterdam is HRH Princess Dina Mired of Jordan. The UN Coordinator for Humanitarian Aid and Reconstruction in Gaza, Sigrid Kaag, addresses the conference in a video message.

Healthcare in Gaza

The conference brings together some 200 practitioners, experts and policymakers involved in providing healthcare and medical aid in Gaza, and committed to rebuilding healthcare in the war-torn area. There are currently no fully functioning hospitals in the Gaza Strip and an estimated 700 practitioners have died. Healthcare facilities are short of staff, beds, medicines, equipment and basic facilities such as drinking water and electricity.

Prominent guests

The conference welcomes HRH Princess Dina Mired of Jordan. As head of the advisory board of the Gaza Health Initiative and the Palestine Children Relief Fund, she brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the cause. In addition, the conference will feature health care providers and representatives from a variety of local and international organisations, including UN agencies UNRWA and World Health Organisation Palestine, the World Bank, Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP), Anera, the Palestinian Medical Relief Society, and Jazoor for Health and Social Development.

Healthcare providers report in video

One of the initial steps in restoring health care in Gaza is supporting local health care providers. A video premiering at the conference features health care providers giving first-hand accounts of the health care situation in Gaza.
