Online tour of our colonial past

News

KIT has launched a new website where you can learn more about our colonial past by taking a virtual tour of our building. Designed as the seat of the Netherlands Colonial Institute, the building is lavishly decorated with artwork that served to enshrine the institute’s colonial history and mission.

In the tour, fourteen works of art in and around the building are critically examined. Visual commentary is provided by artist Brian Elstak in fourteen accompanying drawings.

The online tour is based on the guide ‘Witness in Stone’ and is a joint publication of KIT and the Tropenmuseum. By offering the tour online, we want to enable as many people as possible to learn about the colonial past that lives on in the building that we share. The virtual tour also shows parts of the building that are not accessible to the public.
