Public lecture: ‘Locked out and left behind? Gender, intersecting inequalities and the SDGs’
KIT Royal Tropical Institute and UN Women are organising a public lecture by Prof. Naila Kabeer on “Locked out and left behind? Gender, intersecting inequalities and the SDGs.”
About the speaker
Naila Kabeer is Professor of Gender and Development at the Department of Gender Studies and Department of International Development at London School of Economics and Political Science. Her research interests include gender, poverty, social exclusion, labour markets and livelihoods, social protection and citizenship and much of her research is focused on South and South East Asia.
Prof. Kabeer is currently involved in ERSC-DIFD Funded Research Projects on Gender and Labour Market dynamics in Bangladesh and India. She is especially interested in how various aspects of inequality play out within households, labour markets and the wider economy. Her many publications include: Reversed realities: gender hierarchies in development thought (Verso, 1994), The power to choose: Bangladeshi women and labour supply decision-making in London and Dhaka (Verso, 2000 and Kali for Women 2001), Gender and social protection in the informal economy (Commonwealth Secretriat/Routledge, 2008), Can the MDGs provide a pathway to social justice? The challenge of intersecting inequalities (IDS/MDG Achievement Fund, 2010) and Organizing women workers in the informal economy: beyond the weapons of weak (Zed Press, 2013).
