Do you want to study a Masters programme or summer course at KIT Royal Tropical Institute in 2020, and are you looking for financing? We are happy to inform you that there are scholarships available from the Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP) for applicants from 53 eligible countries to study a Master’s programme or an advanced course at KIT in summer 2020.

If you are you a health professional from one of the 53 eligible OKP countries we strongly encourage you to explore this interesting scholarship opportunity. Scholarships Orange Knowledge Programme
Upcoming application period: Winter 2020

The Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP) is a 5-year programme that aims to advance the capacity, knowledge and quality of both individuals and institutions of higher and vocational education. Talented health professionals from 53 eligible OKP countries can apply for a full scholarship to study a Master’s or advanced course at KIT.

List courses OKP application period winter 2020:
For the following programmes there are scholarships available from the Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP). Follow the links below for more information on each course and apply directly to your course of choice through our online application system. You have to apply separately for the OKP scholarship (once the application system for that opens).

Master of Public Health / International Course in Health Development
Course dates: 14 September 2020 – 3 September 2021
This annual 12-month programme is organised by KIT Royal Tropical Institute and the VU Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Participants can choose from the following study tracks:
MPH – Track in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights
MPH – Track in Health Systems Policy and Management

Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) in a dynamic health environment
Course dates: 17 – 28 August 2020
This course will provide participants with a deeper understanding of the role that M&E plays in all aspects of the health system, and with a broad range of tools and methods to be used in the health sector in developing countries.

New course in French: Suivi et évaluation de la santé dans un contexte dynamique
Course dates: 17 – 28 August 2020
This is a French version of the Course on Monitoring and Evaluation in a dynamic Health environment. For more information in French follow this link

Analysing Disrupted Health Systems in Countries in Crisis
Course dates: 17 – 28 August 2020
This course focuses on the analysis of health systems in countries affected by, or recovering from, protracted crisis. It is organised jointly with the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Save the Children, and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

If you want to apply for a scholarship from the Orange Knowledge Programme, make sure you first apply for academic admission to KIT.

  • Deadline KIT Royal Tropical Institute for academic admission (if applying for OKP): as soon as possible but at the latest by 24 February 2020
  • Registration period OKP: 5 February – 17 March 2020.

Our master’s programmes are an opportunity for health and development professionals to further develop your competencies in specific areas related to global health.

Master in International Health (MIH)
Course dates: 9 March 2020 or 7 September 2020. Full-time or part-time options possible (1 to 5 years)
The aim of the MIH is to develop the capacity of health professionals working at the interface of international organisations and national health systems.

Netherlands Course in Global Health and Tropical Medicine (NTC)
(core course MIH or stand-alone course)
Course dates: 9 March – 12 June 2020 or 7 September – 11 December 2020 (given twice a year)
This course provides essential preparation for health professionals such as medical doctors, nurses and midwives planning to work in low- and middle-income countries.

Core course Public Health
Course dates: 21 September – 11 December 2020
This 3-month course prepares health managers to use a public health approach to address the problems in their country, taking into account epidemiology, health system aspects and broader social determinants of health.

NEW: Part-time Master of Public Health
If you cannot leave your home/job for one year full-time it is now possible to follow the MPH programme in parts, studying it divided over 2-3 years.

Qualitative Methods in Health Systems Research
22 January – 7 February 2020
Participants gain experience in each step of the qualitative research process and learn ways to enhance the utilisation of research results.

Human Resources for Health
Course dates: 17 – 28 February 2020
This course provides knowledge and skills that health care managers, policy makers and planners need for human resource management. It discusses strategies at country and workplace level to address health workforce issues.

Health Policy and Financing
Course dates: 18 May – 05 June 2020
An in-depth look at important issues and current debates in health policy, health economics and health financing, taking into account the diverse profit and not for profit systems.

(E-learning) Rebuilding Disrupted Health Systems – developing context-specific strategies for health care policies, implementation and governance
Course dates: 30 March – 19 June 2020.

Courses on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, and HIV and AIDS

Sexual and Reproductive health and Rights including HIV and AIDS
Course dates: 9 – 27 March 2020
This course explores key principles of SRHR practice across a range of content areas. It also explores key considerations for SRHR and HIV policy and practices.

Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights: Organising Effective Responses
Course dates:  14 April – 06 May 2020
This course builds on current evidence to critically identify and analyse responses across the health system, including emergency and fragile state settings. It also focuses on making services equitable accessible to marginalised groups and key populations. 

Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights: Policy, Governance and Financing 
Course dates: 18 May – 05 June 2020
In this course participants become acquainted with the policy instruments, governance mechanisms and financial structures related to SRHR.

Courses on Disease Management

Control Strategies for Infectious and non-communicable diseases 
Course dates: 14 April –  06 May 2020
In this course a number of communicable and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are used as models to demonstrate different aspects and principles of disease control.
