Knowledge management

Development and research organisations are often so focused on achieving their objectives that they find it difficult to create time to look back, analyse and learn from what they experienced and share their results.

KIT Royal Tropical Institutes Knowledge Management Services helps projects and organisations to systematically document their key experiences, draw out innovative elements and lessons learnt and format these into communication outputs, including published papers, policy briefs, books, blogs, and videos.

Our support contributes to individual and organisational analysis and learning that helps the requesting project or organisation (and its partners) to increase the impact of their work. This increases the visibility of the client and lends further credibility to the organisation. Results of the knowledge management process also contribute to the general body of knowledge in the relevant field of work.

Tailor-made for the individual request and context

KIT combines solid insight in the field of work under review—health, governance, education, agriculture, rural development, gender—with strong facilitation, documentation and publishing capacities.
Each knowledge management trajectory is tailor-made for the individual request and context. But our approach to knowledge management is characterised by a unique mix of quantitative and qualitative-participatory methods, including:

  • direct stakeholder learning workshops
  • data collection by KIT and/or local practitioners
  • distance coaching by KIT experts
  • support in data analysis
  • expert consultations
  • write-shops
  • editing and publishing support.

We recommend that organisations and projects start knowledge management planning as early as possible.

Write-shop

A creative, well facilitated write-shop is often at the heart of the knowledge management process. The write-shop brings together key people directly involved in the work and gives specific attention to building the writing capacities of partner staff. It also facilitates knowledge-sharing and learning—with the ultimate “reward” being a collaboratively-produced publication.
