Hector Chavez

Hector Chavez, PhD, joined KIT’s M&E for Social Impact team in February 2021. They are a multifaceted data researcher with experience and skills for the study of socio-ecological systems, monitoring human rights in value chains, quantitative and qualitative data collection, data and information management and analysis.

Hector’s strengths include the development and implementation of methods and approaches to evaluate environmental and ecological change, including soil and water, ecosystems and their services, biodiversity and climate change mitigation and adaptation. Their expertise and interest extends to the design and implementation of tech and system solutions to collect and manage, analyze and visualize (geo-spatial) data and unstructured text in support of impact research and M&E.

Hector holds bachelor’s in Biological Pharmaceutical Chemistry (honors), specializing in Environmental Toxicology, from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (Mexico); and a master’s in Applied Ecology from the University of Poitiers (France), the University of Coimbra (Portugal), and the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel (Germany). They obtained a PhD in Geo-Ecology at the University of Amsterdam in 2016, with a study of the spatial patterns of the ecological properties and processes that make-up climate regulation services.
